My first log yard.......early 1990s

Here is where it all began, near Heathfield in the early 1990s. My first wood yard was borrowed from a trackside field and grew to the size you can see in the photo, where it is quite well stocked. Processing was by an international 275 tractor (that was fairly unreliable) and McConnel circular saw bench - a bench that slid towards the blade................ ideal for those logs that needed to be cut along the grain in addition to the normal crosscut. Cordwood was sourced, as it is now by coppicing native broadleaves, in this case ash, birch and hornbeam.
